One of the all-time classics - Grenache Shiraz Mourvedre
It's little surprise I’ve released numerous McLaren Vale GSM blends under the Nimble label. This version comes from a long-time friend and vigneron. Sourced from vineyards in the Seaview and Blewitt Springs districts, the Grenache, Shiraz and Mataro were all picked at optimal ripeness and fermented separately in small open vessels. The wine was then aged in seasoned French hogsheads and barriques.
I sampled the parcels from barrel late last year, and was instantly smitten. For those who enjoyed the 2023 Mourvedre I released, this is the same vineyard and winemaking. Stunning stuff.
The Grenache gives a raspberry compote lift to the structured and silky Shiraz. Mataro fills the backbone of this wine, giving layers of dense fruit flavour and those silky tannins. Sooooo goood.
Where & When: Now that winter has finally arrived in most parts of Australia, here is the perfect wine to accompany these cool nights. We’ve pulled our slow cooker out and are enjoying the belly-filling delights of pulled pork, slow-cooked stews, and even retro classics like curried sausages.
