Could this be Langhorne Creek's answer to Pinot Noir?
Maybe, yes. Carignan (car-ig-nan) is a grape most won't have heard of in Australia. In the south of France, it is a widely planted and staple variety.
Carignan is fast becoming popular with avant garde winegrowers and makers here, as its suitability to making fresh, aromatic and simply delicious wines is discovered.
Langhorne Creek's temperate climate is perfectly suited to the variety. The 2023 growing season yielded lively fruit flavours, soft tanning and balanced acidity. The fruit was crushed and fermented in stainless steel tanks to preserve the delicate flavours. Early bottling with no barrel maturation ensured the delicious characters were preserved in the bottle.
At just 12%, this wine is light, bright and set for the warmer months ahead - if you can keep your hands off it till then.
Where & When: A wine like this is so versatile, both in setting and food. A cheeky weeknight vino alongside a pizza, through to a mixed platter in the shade on a warm afternoon. Simply enjoy it as and when...
